Strength For Improved Fitness

The Harmony of Strength in Fitness.

I will tell you about the physical benefits of being strong for you in a moment but how you actually feel about yourself when you work on your strength is so important…

Remember it is your body, your strength and it is all about you!! Everyone is different and has different challenges… focus on why you want to get stronger…. And just take one step, then another trying to make the next one just a little bit harder each time.

It is such a great feeling of when you ask a question of yourself, give yourself a challenge….  and then... Yes, you did it…. you won against yourself…  you feel strong, more confident, and want to go out and take on life.

This is a bit random but I liked it and it really is fundamentally how you get to be stronger.

Milo was a famous ancient Greek Olympic athlete and one of the strongest humans ever… he was said to have become that strong from carrying a calf daily from its birth until it became a full-sized ox. As the calf grew so did Milo's strength, I imagine both physically and mentally. (I am currently carrying my kids everyday as an experiment ha ha..)

Ok so the benefits of Strength Training can really help you in so many ways……and is such a valuable addition to your life.

Strength can be deceiving, it's not just about how much weight you can lift… Strength is how you can tackle your own challenges in life, it encompasses both physical and mental strength, enabling people to overcome challenges and accomplish things requiring muscular effort.

Benifits of Strength Training.... its a long list ha ha.....

  • Improves your balance,
  • Improves your mobility,
  • Helps prevent injuries,
  • Improves your posture,
  • Helps with cognitive function,
  • Is a huge tool for stress relief,
  • Improves cardiovascular health,
  • Helps to build/maintain your muscle mass (which naturally declines with age),
  • Enhances bone density,
  • Boosts your metabolism
  • Has a big part in helping your mental health,
  • Creates resilience,
  • Builds confidence.... it will make you feel like you can actually do this!!

How do you start?

Build on what you have…. You are where you are and so do not worry about it,  just take that first step, along with many others who are in the same position as you. One step leads to another, and then another in your journey😊.

After warming up, go through exercises that will activate your balance and mobility. Then you can start to look at what you feels comfortable for you, can you squat and lunge comfortably? How are your planks? How about a press up? Can you row that weight towards your body?

How do these feel?  Honesty, this is the worst bit, no matter where you are starting from… if you have not done exercise for a while then these can be tough on the body and your confidence… “I used to be fitter….aghhh”

But just think, at least you have just done that work out… now you can look at ways that you can improve those elements of your strength. Mental strength win!!

Start with functional exercises and technique to become balanced, mobile and strong.

It all sounds scary… but honestly just start with using your bodyweight and learning the movement patterns before you add extra resistance to the equation.

Focus on maintaining proper form and technique, and gradually increase the intensity and resistance as you get stronger, making you truly strong…. Think Milo 😊😊
